Paper Play Day! (April 10)

noon-4 p.m.

Thanks to very generous donations from the Queen of Crafts herself, Carol Duvall, and Illinois artist Julie Chun, we now have a great selection of paper crafting tools and supplies!

To celebrate and share this resource we will be holding  Paper Play Days.

For just $15, come and use our tools, such as embossing, riveting, and diecut, and have access to our amazing selection of papers to create your own cards, gift wrap, scrapbook pages,
collages, etc.! Feel free to bring your
own special ephemera or
photos.
Space is limited, so be sure to
sign up early. Call the Art
Center at 352-4151 to register.

Twig Lamp-Wes Blizzard (Apr. 12 & 13)

Monday & Tuesday,                1-3 p.m.
Construct a fabric wall or table twig lamp using muslin, twigs, grass etc. Please bring electric drill and scissors.

Try Before You Buy! Beginning Watercolor-Mary Kay Niemiec (April 20 or August 3)

Are you looking for a creative outlet that doesn’t require a huge layout to get started? Or are you looking for a medium that has easy cleanup and portability? We will start with the basics of paint, paper, brushes and other supplies. We will explore mixing colors, brush techniques, composition and more. You can bring your own supplies, or experiment with ours. A great way to “try before you buy.”

How To Take World Class Photographs-Al Amstutz (May 6)

This class is for those interested in photography who would like to improve their skills and make ordinary “snapshots” into extraordinary and award winning photographs. Lots of experience is not necessary, only the desire to improve your results and be proud of your photographs. Weather permitting we will use natural surroundings and familiar sights. People photography is included as well as nature, animals and architecture. Cameras with adjustable aperture and shutter speed are desirable but not required

From Camera to Computer- Al Amstutz (May 11)

$35/$45

Tues., 9am – 12pm
This class will teach you how to move images from your camera to your computer. You will understand and practice making new files and folders, placing images in a logical file system for retrieval. You will learn how to resize images for email and printing

Beginning Photoshop-Al Amstutz (May 13)

$35/$45

Thurs., 9am – 12pm
This class will teach you how to rescue improperly exposed photographs. We will discuss and demonstrate: improving contrast, brightness, color balance, red eye removal and more. You will learn how to use the various tools for cloning, applying special effects, changing to Black and white and much much more, We will discuss how to resize, crop, balance and generally improve the photos from your camera. We will also cover how to change traditional photographs into watercolors, line drawing, chalk, oils and more. Photoshop Elements and Paint Shop Pro software will be used

Beginning Collage-Jane McElroy (May 17 & 18)

Experience the fun of playing with paper. This freeform class will focus primarily on abstract collage, although students are welcome to explore the representational. Learn about all sorts of collage mediums, from cut and paste to installations.

Intermediate Photoshop-Al Amstutz (May 20)

Thurs., 9am – 12pm
This class will build on the beginning photoshop class to include more advanced methods and techniques. They will include but not be limited to Selection of parts of a picture, using layers, adding text, creating panoramas, combining multiple images. We will also discuss retouching, correcting color, using photo filters, and much more. We will also spend time answering specific question from individual students.

The Creative Art of Encaustic Painting-Christine Towner (May 21 & 22)

Learn innovative ways to add dimension and color to your abstracts, mixed media or sculpture. Become enraptured with encaustic wax’s versatility and varied approaches from simple application to archival complexity. An ancient medium, once used on the Fayum Egyptian mummy portraits by Greek painters, later evolved in the 1950’s by modernist Jasper Johns. His artistic approach with encaustic wax began to lend depth and a special luminosity to his abstracts. This began the transformational “flat” abstract into an intriguing new dimension. A revolution of innovation and originality is now underway in the new millennium. Come and learn this fascinating and complex artistic medium.

Photography of Art-Al Amstutz (May 27)

This class will teach theory and practice of professionally photographing works of art. Watercolor, oil paintings, charcoal, drawings and other artistic media including sculpture, flowers, still life and other creations such as quilts, crafts, sewing projects etc.
Each participant is encouraged to bring one or two pieces to be used for demonstrations. You will receive a photograph of your own pieces at the conclusion of the class.
Studio lighting, “home made” and outdoor lighting techniques will be discussed.
