Have fun while you learn the basics of both Floral Painting and Colored pencils.
In this class we will use a step by step approach to portraying a realistic flower using the techniques of layering, blending colored pencils with solvent and burnishing. You will be able to take these same techniques and apply them to your own floral paintings.

Please check with the Art Center for a list of required supplies and pencils. If you prefer, you may purchase them the day of class.

An all-day intensive study workshop in autumn themes. Focus on expansive skies and vibrant autumn foliage in the landscape.

20 local artists have put together unique creations from recycled objects and modeled them for the Crystal Lake Art Center's first Re-Fashion Show. The event was held at the Garden Theater in Frankfort at 7 p.m. July 8. Tickets were $15  available at the door. Wine and desserts were served after the show. This was a fundraiser for the art center.

To grow as an artist we must sometimes step out of our “comfort zone” and learn new ways to channel and challenge our creativity. With emphasis on design, Edee will clearly explain and demonstrate collage and mixed media techniques. Students already experienced in this medium will add many new innovative Joppich experiments to their repertoire of techniques. Jazz class is typically a choreographed routine based on a popular movie (high school musical) or dance (hoe down, throw down), or popular dance video. All ages are welcome.

Tap class is available for all ages. The class will be structured to the individuals. For example, if there are three 2 year olds, three 8 year olds, and 3 adults, the class will be divided.

How do I know what supplies are needed for a class?

Classes will either include materials needed (materials fee may be required to cover them) or we will send you a supply list when we receive your registration.

How do I teach and/or propose a class?

Call or email the art center (231-352-4151) and tell us about your ideas for a class and about your teaching experience.

Are programs open to anyone?

Yes. Some programs may have a charge and all require pre-registration unless otherwise noted.

Do you have scholarships available for classes?

Scholarships for youth classes may be available. Call the art center to request an application.

The Crystal Lake Art Center, in cooperation with the Michigan Dance Collective, present an extensive dance and visual arts residency in Benzie County schools. The project culminates with a performance at Benzie Central Auditorium.
The project serves every third grader in the county, including classes at Betsie Valley, Crystal Lake, Lake Ann, Platte River, and Frankfort elementary schools. The project takes the students’ curriculum and explores the subjects through dance movement and visual arts projects. Subjects for the dances are chosen by the classroom teachers and have included the life cycle of a dragonfly; the earth, moon, and sun; fractions; and other subjects. Dancers work with students to create their dances and artists help the students make props and backdrops. The project provides over 88 hours of instruction for over 200 students in eleven classrooms. It is made possible by support from the Larry and Susan Burks Family
