The Crystal Lake Art Center is excited to announce
the following classes, designed for all ages and all skill levels. We encourage you
to join us in advancing your creative development in an atmosphere for students and
artists to enjoy the camaraderie and knowledge of other artists and students in the
counties surrounding us.

ADULT CLASSES
Figure Drawing
No Instructor
$10 a session
2nd Saturday of the Month, April-June
1-3:30 p.m.
REGISTRATION
This non-instructional class is starting up again for
the spring.There will be a live model at each session. A great opportunity to use
any media to capture the human figure. Come and join the group!
Figure Drawing with Costumed Model
No Instructor
$10 a session
4th Saturday of the Month, April-June
1-3:30 p.m.
REGISTRATION
These sessions are for those who would like to draw
or paint a clothed model in long poses. (Please pre-register for Figure Drawing sessions!)
Learn Colored Pencils
Instructor: Carolyn Hudson

REGISTRATION
Tired of the clean up painting requires? Come and
join us in learning about colored pencils and their versatility. We will work on
different techniques unique to colored pencils, and different tricks of the trade
will be discussed. Experienced and inexperienced students are welcome. Beginning
drawing classes would be helpful.
Intermediate Drawing

REGISTRATION
For those with some drawing background that would like
to continue to learn or spruce up their skills. In this class students will use ink,
charcoal, and pencil to capture portraits, landscapes and figures. Students will
learn to create their own style. Please bring a drawing pad at least 81/2x11in. in
size. Students may also bring in their own subject matter to draw.
Leatherworking
Instructor: Amalia Fernand

Learn about the history and uses of leather. Discover
basic stamping techniques and create your own bracelet.
Improving Your Photography
Instructor: Al Amstutz

REGISTRATION
This class is for those interested in photography who
would like to improve their skills and make ordinary “snapshots” into extraordinary,
award-winning photographs. Lots of experience is not necessary, only the desire
to improve your results and be proud of your photographs. Weather permitting we
will use natural surroundings and familiar sights. People photography is included
as well as nature, animals and architecture. Cameras with adjustable aperture and
shutter speed are desirable but not required.
Beginning Acrylic
Instructor: Chris Bigelow
$100/$115 plus $10 material fee
Tuesdays, May 6-27
1-3 p.m.
REGISTRATION
For those interested in learning the basics of acrylic
painting. This class will cover color theory, brush techniques, various tools and
how to stretch a canvas. Bring in two photos- a landscape and a portrait to work
from. The material fee will cover all needed supplies but you may bring any materials
you have.
From Camera to Computer
Instructor: Al Amstutz

10-11 a.m.
REGISTRATION
This class will teach you to create files on your computer
and transfer photographs from your camera to your computer in a logical, organized
fashion. You will learn how to retrieve photos from your computer for printing or
sharing. We will discuss how to resize photos for email or the World Wide Web.
Flip Books
Instructor: Pam Yee
$45 plus $6 material fee

REGISTRATION
Students will make flip books using cardstock, decorative
papers, and fibers provided by the instructor. Students may bring their favorite
papers, fibers or ephemera to add to their project.
Photo Correction, Improvement & Manipulation on Your Computer
Instructor: Al Amstutz

REGISTRATION
This class will teach you how to rescue improperly
exposed photographs. We will discuss and demonstrate the following: improving contrast,
brightness, color balance, red eye removal and more. You will learn how to use the
various tools for cloning, applying special effects, changing to black and white
and much much more. We will discuss how to resize, crop, balance and generally improve
the photos from your camera. We will also cover how to change traditional photographs
into watercolors, line drawing, chalk, oils and more. Photoshop Elements and Paint
Shop Pro software will be used.
Exploring the Watercolor Media through Small Studies

REGISTRATION
Paints, brushes and paper will be supplied by the instructor.
Each student will receive a packet of (3) 5x7 watercolor note card stock with envelopes
With each card we will explore various techniques using watercolor. Starting with
a quick color and mixing theory experiment, then exploring the technique of using
glazes/washes, salt, the spatter technique and negative painting approach. We will
do a little critic and talk about composition and matting possibilities for the finished
pieces. Everyone will leave with at least 2 finished pieces.
Wild Wire Bangle Bracelets
Instructor: Lorie Woods
$20 plus $50 materials

REGISTRATION
We will be making fun and funky bracelets. Each person
will make 1-2 bracelets. Choice of glass beads, sterling and metal wire and all hardware
will be in the materials kit.

Nature Explorers Spring

Ages 3-7
REGISTRATION
Join us to learn about native Michigan animals this
spring. Each week will feature a different lesson involving interactive stories,
songs, and games. Children will create take-home artwork and receive coloring and
activity sheets. They will discover the differences between insects and spiders,
explore the life of an otter, identify native birds and learn the distinctions among
reptiles and amphibians. This environmental educational class is designed to interest
and engage young children, and to include arts and crafts as an important medium
to enhance the learning process.

earrings. Materials cost includes base metal earwires. (Sterling silver earwires
